Previous versions of TV4Education provided the ability for users to download offline copies of programs. However, downloading programs circumvented the security and auditability of programs for administrators.
For example, once downloaded, a program could be watched by any user, regardless of their age or the video's rating.
Another example is, that once a program is downloaded, all watch analytics are untraceable, resulting in administrators being unaware of true usage for titles and thus which programs should be highlighted to users.
As a result, v4.1 requires all users to log in to watch programs, to ensure that all security and auditability measures are maintained by the service you are subscribing to.
However, we certainly appreciate that some school's bandwidths aren't up to the task of streaming hundreds of videos concurrently. For this, we offer SmartSuites Local Streaming (SSLS) service.
SSLS provides you with a utility that you can install locally on your school network. Built into SmartSuite and TV4Education v4.1 is intelligence that monitors and flags videos to be downloaded to your network based on their usage or potential usage to minimise bandwidth impact.
All your users have to do is search and press play to a video through the SmartSuite interface and we'll auto-detect your bandwidth settings to select between the copy which was previously downloaded to your network OR the online copy.
It's seamless from your user's point of view, but results in the same end goal which is to reduce bandwidth usage on your network.
Instructions to configure SSLS can be found here: Setting up Local Streaming (SSLS)
