This article will detail how to troubleshoot a patron's loan limits appearing as nil.
Areas covered in this article are:
- Patron's Lock Limits
- Patron's Classgrade Settings
- Duplicated Classgrades in Authority Editor
If a patron's loan limits are coming up with 0 in all areas and the Final Borrow & Expiry fields as empty, there could be a number of factors causing this.
Patron's Lock Limits
The first thing to adjust is the patron's Lock Limits. If these limits are set to , any adjustments made to these loan limits will not be saved.
To unlock these limits, simply click on the 'Yes' button, and it will slide over to 'No'.
Select along the bottom bar to save this adjustment.

Patron's Classgrade Settings
Each patron belongs to a Classgrade, and these Classgrades determine the loan limits for each patron.
If loan limits are coming up as nil, this could mean that the Classgrade settings haven't been set up, or there is an issue with the Classgrade settings.
To check the Classgrade settings, select and select Configuration > Authority Editor.
Once in Authority Editor, select Classgrade from the drop-down options, and choose the Classgrade your patron sits in by selecting the icon.

This will show you the Classgrade settings. Input your settings for the Classgrade and select .
If the Final Borrow & Expiry Date are blank, your loan limits will not take affect.
Final Borrow is the last date you want students to loan by.
Expiry refers to the date when a Classgrade is no longer valid. For example, if your school discontinues Year 11, you would adjust the expiry date to reflect that.
Duplicated Classgrades in Authority Editor
Sometimes when importing patrons, year levels can be accidentally duplicated. This happens if the year level includes extra characters like a leading zero or words like "year", "grade" or "class".
SmartSuite recognizes this as a new Classgrade and may upload students in this 'new' Classgrade with default settings set to 0.
An example of this is as follows:
All of these Classgrades represent the eleventh year level of a school but only exist because they have additional characters & words that accompany the '11'.
If this is the case, you can bulk move all patrons into the correct Classgrade in Global Functions.
